I had a client many years ago who complained when his wife said she wanted a white kitchen.   Husband said it reminded him of his grandmother’s kitchen.  That’s the first hint that white will always be in style.  Many people like to reminisce about their childhood, so emulating their grandmother’s kitchen brings them back to their youth, and makes them feel cozy and safe.

Traditional kitchens have a very comfortable feel, especially using white, raised panel cabinets.  The glass cabinet doors enhance the feeling of old world, while the Carrara marble on the backsplash and countertops brings in a clean, crisp look.  The dark flooring is a good contrast and, of course, the crystal chandelier give it a touch of elegance.

White, shaker style cabinetry works very well in this kitchen giving it a transitional look.  Clean enough not to be considered “traditional” and warm enough to keep it out of the very contemporary style category.  Simple pendants are functional and very stylish for this kitchen.  The medium tone wood floor has warmth and balance for the patterned granite countertops.

I can’t imagine anything but white in this loft.  The clean cabinetry and stainless steel countertops help to enhance the open, contemporary feel in the living space.  Again, the wood floor gives a good contrast and is very functional and practical.
