Because of the pandemic, it’s been 3 months since I ventured out to a market to do my own food shopping. I heard that arriving early would be safer, so I actually got there at 7 a.m. I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to actually walk into Sprouts.

As I have mentioned in past rants, shopping online has become one of my more enjoyable habits, but occasionally something goes wrong.

Ordering food is not like ordering a case of copy paper or a box of cereal.  You have a choice of brand and size, then click.  No guesswork there.

When I ordered 5 bananas and got 5 pounds which was equal to 28 bananas, it was a little disconcerting.  They wouldn’t take them back, of course, since they had been in my kitchen.  I did post the picture of my pile of bananas on face book, as many of you saw and commented. By the way, my banana bread was my first failure, but let’s not share that.

So, getting back to my field trip to Sprouts – I think I had a very happy, excited look on my face as I was walking through the produce section.  I remember feeling like this whenever I shop for jewelry.

I have to say that picking out produce is personal and cannot be relegated to just anyone.  It’s an art that is developed over time with years of experience, but far be it from me to say anything negative about the Instacart shoppers. I don’t know if the day will come when I won’t be able to squeeze my own cantaloupe, and will have to rely on them.
