Nancys avatarAre we in “the year of the coffee” again?   I never liked the taste of milk so I crossed it off my list when I was 12 yrs old.  Then I discovered black coffee in high school.  It seemed like the perfect substitute for snacking, and I really needed to lose some weight.  I became a serious coffee drinker long before Starbucks was a twinkle in someone’s eye.

Every so often a study is done about the bad effects of coffee and how we should not drink this poison.  And then, the contradicting reports say how we should drink coffee because it is a powerful antioxidant. This may be why coffee consumption is linked with decreased risk of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease. Coffee also contains nutrients that help to regulate blood sugar (only if you are not using 6 packs of sugar in your coffee).

In my humble opinion, caffeine in moderation is a good thing.  Where else can I get a quick shot of energy to help finish that project or get me going in the morning?  And coffee is legal, which is by far, the most important thing.  I don’t have to buy it in some dark alley or cross the border.

I don’t care what those reports say.  I am going to keep drinking to Juan Valdez and his little donkey.
