The phrase “giving back” is in 6th place for being overused in our everyday conversation. This might be true, or not. It doesn’t really matter what we call it or how we describe it, but I don’t think “the act” of giving back is overdone. I have met some wonderful human beings in our Design Community who go out of their way to help people in various situations without expecting anything in return.

We all know who these people are. They quietly volunteer their time or help raise money for others who are less fortunate. They don’t expect anything in return. They get great satisfaction out of just feeling good about what they do.

I am so impressed with Bridging AZ and what they have accomplished at the Toby House over the past several weeks. Bridging AZ, Arizona’s first furniture bank, is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In 2003, Bridging AZ began as a ministry of St Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church by Jim & Donna Piscopo. The response was so overwhelming that they incorporated as a nonprofit in 2004. In the past 10 years Bridging has distributed over 250,000 items to tens of thousands of families in need, through social service agencies who identify and qualify the families.

Designers Circle will now be aligned with Bridging AZ. You will be seeing the Piscopos at more events when their busy schedule will allow it.

I am excited to announce that we will be co-hosting the 1st formal fundraising event for Bridging AZ on Saturday, October 24, 2015. We are in the planning stage, but as soon as we solidify more of the event, you will be the first to know.
