No one can dispute that technology has made our lives better in every area from communication to the medical field, and everything in between.  But for every good, there is evil, unfortunately.  When our email has been hacked, we usually find out by the crazy, cryptic email we receive from a friend or business associate letting us know that they just received an email from us, or maybe not from us.  I know that many times I’ve been the one to email or call that person and let them know what I received from them.

Recently I got an email warning about interesting hooks that have hidden cameras inside of them.  They are sold on Amazon with suggestions for using them as Nanny cams or security cams for your home or even to keep an eye on your pets.

These hooks look innocent in the hands of the right people and, after reading the reviews, seem like a useful item and very affordable – under $40.

Here’s the big BUT.  If you see a hook like this in a public bathroom, hotel, dressing room, etc. you should leave and call the police. The big thing to look out for with these hooks is the tiny little hole at the top. That’s the camera.

These cameras are operated wirelessly and, according to Twenty Two Words, “can be recorded remotely, and the wireless remote control works through walls.” A few years ago these hooks with hidden cameras were found in a Florida Keys bathroom.

The big thing to look out for, other than the suspicious-looking hole at the top, is if the hook is placed in an odd spot. If it’s in a spot that doesn’t seem normal for a hook, be on alert.

Consider this a community service announcement for everyone I know.
