My family loves to cook . . . Last year we ended up with seven turkeys! This is a bit much. We had roasted turkeys, deep fried turkeys and smoked turkeys. We only had twenty-four people! This year I declared I am not making a turkey but will do all the sides and pies, and the rest of you can make the turkeys!
Enough of that! Let’s talk design, my favorite topic. This year I am keeping it simple, but my tablescapes will look amazing. I am using the pumpkins I haven’t carved from Halloween as the base for my centerpieces. I will hollow them out and create floral arrangements of red and purple roses with berries and greenery. Since the weather is so wonderful right now, I’m going to serve dinner outside. I can set four six-foot tables together to make one long table (very Harry Potter). White, teal and orange is my theme this year. White linens and white china with teal glass bottles, lots of pears, roses, candles and fall leaves. Lanterns with white candles and white twinkle lights hanging from trees will make the evening sparkle.
For desserts this year I want to create a pie table with a variety of different pies and toppings. Keeping a rustic them, I want to use wooden elements with colorful ceramic pie plates and a burlap runner to give it a touch of warmth.
I am going to have a paper and pencil next to each plate and have everyone make a list of all they are grateful for this year and share this with each other. I will tuck these away and save them for years to come.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
